I know you’ve looked at marketing programs before in the past. Who hasn’t? I’ve looked at everything out there and you have to be careful. What I found will probably shock you.

There are three main types of so-called “experts” out there waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting advisors:

  1. The marketing “experts” at your friendly FMO. The funny thing is that most of the guys selling “the system” had never sold anything to a senior prospect and wouldn’t give references of advisors who were successfully using their system.   2. The guru who made over $3,000,000 last year and wants to sell you his seminar system as a way to beef up his downline and override commissions. The problem is most of the so-called “gurus” have an enormous staff that supports them in their practice. When you take out the cost of employees and other business expenses, these “gurus” are only taking home about $500,000 (I know I’ve asked them). I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea of having to earn $6 just to make $1. I’m just not the type of person who wants to manage a large staff. And to top it off if you had any questions for the guru, you had to fax a coupon and wait two weeks for a response. Not what I call customer service.

  3. The marketing system offered by the expert who used to be a million-dollar producer. The key words here are “used to be a million dollar producer.” If someone hasn’t seen a client or prospect in their office in several years how cutting edge do you think their material is? What makes it even worse is that these folks will nickel and dime you to death for every system or product under the sun. The truth be told these systems just don’t work that well. I know I’ve tried them.
